'RECKLESS' BOMB PLAN
Tuesday, 3 September 2013
THE people behind two mortar devices found in south Armagh have a "twisted philosophy" that motivates them to murder members of the security forces, according to Bessbrook MLA Danny Kennedy.
Politicians were quick to condemn the discovery of the rocket launchers close to Cullyhanna on Tuesday that led to a number of homes being evacuated and a four-day police operation.
Mr Kennedy said: "I utterly condemn those responsible for the alert in Cullyhanna which has placed lives at risk and caused local people to be evacuated from their homes.
“Once again the local community has cause to thank the police and army for their diligent work to protect local people from harm. Their selfless actions are in total contrast to the actions of those whose twisted philosophy motivated them to leave explosive devices at the side of a public road, no doubt in a bid to murder members of the security forces."
SDLP Assembly Member Dominic Bradley said those behind the devices were "reckless and irresponsible" and appealed to anyone with information to contact police.
He added: "The people of Cullyhanna, south Armagh and indeed the people of this island want to be left in peace instead those responsible still live in some warped existence of the past."
Sinn Fein MP Conor Murphy added: "Over the past day families on the Sheetrim Road have been evacuated. This is a great inconvenience for a rural, farming community, particularly when schools have just reopened."
