Frazer to dress as ‘Muslim’
Tuesday, 17 September 2013
LOYALIST campaigner Willie Frazer has said he will dress up as a Muslim for his next court appearance.
Mr Frazer is currently facing six charges related to protests in Belfast at the beginning of the year following Belfast City Hall's decision to restrict the flying of the British flag.
One of the charges he faces is one count of encouraging or assisting offences by making a speech to flag protesters outside Belfast City Hall.
Mr Frazer is believed to be the first person charged with the relatively new offence, which was created as part of The Serious Crime Act 2007.
The Markethill man claimed he would protest against the charge he faces at his next court appearance by "dressing as a Muslim."
“It's an absolute farce, this law was created to deal with extremist Muslims yet I'm the first person in the UK to be charged with it, it's beyond a joke," he said.
“I will be protesting against this farce at my next hearing by dressing as a Muslim."
When asked what exactly dressing as a Muslim meant Mr Frazer said he would "go the whole hog."
“I'm going to go the whole hog and get hooks for hands and all, like that hate preacher on the mainland," he said referring to radical Muslim preacher Abu Hamza who was deported from Britain last year and is currently awaiting trial on terrorism charges in the US.
Other charges Mr Frazer faces include taking part in an unnotified public procession, obstructing traffic in a public place and possession of a prohibited weapon, namely a Taser stun gun.
He returns to court on September 27.
