A GUN attack at a house in Carnbane Gardens on Sunday night has been condemned.
Shots were fired at the house, which was vacant at the time, at around 11.20pm. UUP MLA Danny Kennedy who visited the scene on Monday morning and spoke to residents said: "I was extremely concerned to learn that shots were fired at a house in Carnbane Gardens. I would appeal to anyone who knows anything about this incident to come forward immediately.
“We simply cannot have people going around Newry and shooting at houses, and it important that this incident is dealt with as quickly as possible in order to reassure the local community."
Deputy Mayor of Newry and Mourne David Taylor said: "I utterly condemn last night's reckless attack on a property in Carnbane Gardens.
I know that the local community is both shocked and angry this morning, and I share those sentiments.
“Discharging a firearm in a built up area risks injuring or even killing innocent people and there is absolutely no excuse or defence for such activity. Whoever was responsible must be caught and punished in the courts. Community safety is paramount."
Police said they are investigating the incident and there were no reports of any injuries as a result of the incident.
Anyone who has any information about the incident is asked to contact police at Ardmore on 0845 600 8000. Information can also be provided anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
