MEETING OVER SEX OFFENDERS
Tuesday, 3 December 2013
CONCERNS and questions regarding the access of information about sex offenders living within the community are to be put to Justice Minister David Ford.
The move follows two convicted sex offenders being housed within yards of Our Lady's Grammar School, as was reported on our front page last week.
Within days of the Democrat hitting the shelves of local newsagents, a meeting was held between Newry Sinn Féin Councillor Charlie Casey - who lives in the same area as that which was housing rapist Juris Sientinsons and sex attacker Aivis Antzunas - the PPANI (Public Protection Arrangements NI) Community Restorative Justice, the PSNI and community representatives.
Speaking afterwards, Mr Casey described the meeting as informative and useful and confirmed that his party colleague, MLA Mickey Brady has submitted a question to the Justice Minister "to get a better understanding of what information local people can access regarding offenders being situated in their communities."
