Newry firm scores soccer stadium deal

A NEWRY construction company has scored the coveted multi-millon-pound contract to complete Windsor Park Stadium.
Announcing the decision to award the work to O'Hare and McGovern, Caral Ni Chuilin, whose Department is putting up £31m towards the overhaul, told the Assembly that the firm had proposed the most economically advantageous tender.
“As no challenges were received...the funding agreement was issued to the Irish Football Association (IFA), and the successful contractor, was appointed in December 2013," the Minister added.
A spokeswoman for the IFA said, which is contributing the remaining £4m funding for the scheme, said the pre-construction design phase is anticipated to be completed in March with works beginning thereafter.
O'Hare and McGovern, the construction division of Newry-based Carnbane House Group, has confirmed it is already working on the design development of the stadium, the first stage in its upgrade.
Founded as a small contracting firm in 1972, the company is now part of a multi-faceted organisation with interests in general contracting, house-building, civil engineering, shopfitting, private development and Public Private Partnership.
Expansion has seen the firm become recognised as one of the major players in both the British and Irish construction industries with a projected turnover for the year ahead of £75m.
