MAN 'CRITICAL' AFTER CROSS HIT AND RUN
Tuesday, 27 December 2016
A MAN is in a critical condition after what is understood to be a hit and run accident at Cardinal O Fiaich Square, Crossmaglen in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, December 27).
The man, whose identity was not known at the time of going to print, was admitted to the Royal Victoria hospital in Belfast, where he remains.
Sinn Fein Slieve Gullion Councillor Terry Hearty spoke to the Democrat about the incident.
“Last night they (the PSNI) were saying that the Square has been closed off - that there had been a hit and run," said Mr Hearty.
“I took from the police man who phoned me that it happened late last night and what he told me was - it was a hit and run, and he wouldn't say who it was or that but he said that he was seriously injured."
A police spokesperson said: "Motorists are advised that Cardinal O'Fiaich Square in the centre of Crossmaglen has been closed following a serious RTC.
“Local diversions are in place while police conduct an investigation into the circumstances of the collision."
