Youths targeting homes with stones

A "SMALL group of youths" have been targeting homes in Mullaghbawn after throwing eggs and stones and placing nails under car tyres.
Slieve Gullion councillor Mickey Larkin, has said that the anti-social behaviour at Mullanstown in Mullaghbawn has caused grave concern to many residents and the local community.
“In response to reports of incidents at Mullanstown I accompanied local Parish Priest Fr Heagney to listen to the concerns of residents," said the Sinn Fein councillor.
“Over a period of months a small group of youths have been targeting homes in the estate causing distress to a number of householders.
“What may have started as high jinks has developed into a more serious case of intimidation and harassment. Initial banging on doors and windows has been followed by the throwing of stones, wood and eggs at houses.
“The latest incident involved the placing of a piece of wood with nails at the rear wheel of a car."
The Sinn Féin representative has called on those involved to stop immediately.
“This anti community activity is not only detrimental to the victims but can also have a corrosive effect on the development of those carrying out the acts," he added.
“I support the community in their call for those involved to end their attacks on their own community.
“We would encourage parents and others with influence to continue to promote the respect of and positive contribution to Mullaghbawn which is shown by the vast majority of our young people."
