Katie to take on Dublin Marathon for  charity thumbnailKatie Bennett

LOCAL woman Katie Bennett is participating in her first ever Marathon Run, later this month to raise funds for Cuan Mhuire addiction centres.

The popular young lady will take part in the Dublin Marathon on October 29.

Sr Consilio founded her first Cuan Mhuire in Athy County Kildare 51 years ago. Today the charity is recognised as Ireland's largest provider of residential assessment and support for those suffering from addictions.

Katie is involved in many aspects of the day to day services provided by Cuan Mhuire Regional Addiction Support Centre in Newry.

She explained: "At any given time, Cuan Mhuire cares for approximately 600 residents providing some 50% of the residential addiction support in Ireland.

"Three thousand people are admitted annually for residential support and an open door policy operates on a 24 hour per day basis, 365 days of the year.

"We have seen an enormous demand on our services by individuals and families who are suffering the effects of addiction and the negative consequence's resulting from addiction.

"We are a xharity and now more than ever we depend on the generosity and support of the local community, which over the years, has been an inspiration and motivation for those of us involved with Cuan Mhuire."

She continued, "I am using my challenge of taking on the Dublin Marathon on Sunday October 29 to help raise funds for Cuan Mhuire.

"I didn't sign up to win it, nor did I sign up to get a personal best, I am running it because I believe anything is possible.

"I had the courage to start and If I can help raise funds for a worthy cause then I have achieved my goal."
