Depleted through illness, on paper the Point were up against it with a fancied Carrick Rangers team, however, they notched up a comprehensive win following a convincing team performance on the back of a six-week break in fixtures.

Most notable on the night was Newry lad, Andy Fox, marking his debut for the club with a hat-trick after signing this week from Portadown on the opening of the transfer window. His strike partner, Ethan Copes, chimed in with a brace of his own, before James Magowan delivered the final goal of the game, to mark another impressive debut in midfield.

It was just reward for Magowan, as moments earlier he rattled the Carrick crossbar with a 25-yard effort that left the Carrick goalkeeper, Callum Styles, rooted to the spot. While not on the score-sheet, special mention should also go to right back Aaron Kehoe and Ethan Doyle, who pulled the strings for the Seasiders in midfield.

A great showing for their first game of the new year from the lads and manager Kieran Power was delighted by the teams efforts on a cold, blustery winters night.

Man-of-the-match was debutant Andy Fox (pictured), who together with Copes tortured the opposition and delivered a master-class in finishing. As last year's U16 First Division champions, the Point lads signalled their intent to go for back-to-back National League titles.

Next up is Limavady on Friday night.
