Tributes to first Polish Consul General

POLISH Consul for Northern Ireland Jerome Mullen expressed his deep sorrow at the recent death of his esteemed friend and colleague Dariusz Adler.

In a moving eulogy to Mr Adler, who would have been well-known to Polish residents in the local area, Mr Mullen spoke of their years working together in the Polish Consul and described his friend as "a real joy" to work with.

Mr Mullen said: "I have had the personal honour and privilage to have worked with Dariusz Adler in my role as honorary consul of Poland over the past five years.

"He was man of great energy and compassion and I regard my years working alongside him as a real joy and I will miss him greatly."

Mr Adler, who was 53-years-old, passed away on Sunday last and leaves behind his wife Krystyna, son Maciek and daughter Marta.

"Dariuisz was appointed last November as the first Consul General in the newly established Consulate General of Poland in Belfast.

"He had served in the previous four years as Consul General in Scotland and had responsibility for Northern Ireland as welL, said Mr Mullen.

"His son Maciek is a doctor in Milton Keynes and his daughter, Marta, is studying at Aberdeen University and his wife is also a doctor, who's also practising medicine in Scotland.

"He was good friend of mine, he wasn't just a colleague and we've been involved directly over the past four years or more. He was my direct line contact while reporting from here because he was responsible, whilst serving as the Consul General in Scotland, he was also responsible for Northern Ireland."

"They've set up a separate consulate in Belfast and he was involved in heading up that. It's far too young. Digney Funeral Homes lookeda fter the funeral and took him back up to Belfast for the funeral mass in Kilbridges Church last Friday," said Mr Mullen.

"A native of Warsaw Mr Adler joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996 and worked initially on Poland's relationship with NATO and blossomed in to a career building bridges with Poland's significant international diaspora," added Mr Mullen.
