WINDMILL Stars continued their pre-season preparations on Saturday with a win in very hot temperatures. It's a cliche but it was certainly a game of two halves with Sunnyside the much better and brighter team in the first half and they will have been very disappointed to not be a couple of goals in front at half time.
With several players making their first team debuts it looked like a team getting used to each other. At half-time the management team made five changes that changed the momentum of the game.
Three minutes into the second half new signing Chris McMahon scored his first goal for the club, finishing off an excellent passing move from outside the box, firing his well drilled shot into the bottom corner of the net.
This was quickly followed by a neat finish by half-time sub Timmy Grant to make it 2-0. The team had now settled and with 30 minutes to play Raymie Fitzpatrick was brought down in the box and Jacky Cunningham cooly slotted home the resulting penalty.
The team were now launching wave after wave of attack with Cunningham and Jordan King causing real problems down the left.
With 20 minutes to play Conal Davy saw his effort hit the cross bar, bounce down on the line and was cleared by the Sunnyside defence.
In the last ten minutes Grant scored his second when he popped up to head home at the back post but he saved his best goal to last. With the 90 minutes almost up he received the ball on the edge of the box and manage to evade four Sunnyside players before placing his shot into the net to claim a second half hat-trick.
