NEWRY based Crossan Racing have finalised plans that will see the team forward two riders to contest efforts both on the roads and a welcome return to short circuit racing after an absence of almost 20 years.
Adrian Fagan, team owner and managing director of Crossan Motorcycles in Newry is glad to be back on the circuit.
“I was the last man to compete on a Crossan machine at a short circuit campaign when I rode my own RS 250 Honda at Mondello Park in 1997," said Fegan.
Since then the effort had been switched to road racing with some legendary names such as Robert Dunlop, Michael Dunlop, Ian Duffus, Sam Dunlop and Ian Lougher all campaigning on Crossan machinery.
Spearheading the Crossan team's efforts for the forthcoming road racing season will be the vastly experienced Wayne Kirwan.
Kirwan comes from Louth village and has a wealth of road racing experience behind him winning the 2007 750 Support Championship with the JD's Road Racing team. Wayne had numerous top ten finishes in national races on the Irish scene and the Isle of Man has become something of a speciality for the Louth man. Wayne has seen numerous top three finishes at the Manx culminating in his 600 Super Sport win at the Manx GP Festival in 2012.
Partnering Wayne and representing the Crossan Racing team's efforts on the short circuit scene for 2013 will be Castleblaney's Joe Loughlin.
The 19-year-old Loughlin became the youngest rider to win the Irish 400cc Clubman's Championship in 2010 with an unprecedented 13 wins along the way, with numerous race wins and top three finishes under his belt Loughlin finished third in the 2012 Irish 600 SS Clubman's Championship setting a new 600cc lap record at Bishops Court, which was last held by Glen Irwin.
Both Joe and Wayne are past president's cup winners with the most recent being won by Loughlin in 2012.
The Co Monaghan lad will concentrate his efforts riding the Crossan backed Yamaha R6 in the forthcoming Adelaide Sasters series with selected national short circuit events and a number of Thunder Sport rounds in the UK.
The team's first outing will be the test day on Saturday, March 2, at Bishopscourt Racing Circuit, while the first round of the Adelaide Masters Series will be held at Mondello Park on April 6 and 7.
