Tullylish survive late scare
Tuesday, 17 September 2013
DESPITE overcoming a late scare, Tullylish made it safely through to the last four of the Around A Pound Intermediate Championship.
Tullylish were the better side in the opening half, netting twice and pointing five times. Chris McGovern soloed through to grab a goal for Tullylish after just five minutes. That major score gave them a four-point advantage with their earlier scores coming from Shannon Drainey and Peter Quinn while John McAreavey added another later on in the half. And just before the break Drainey fired into the Banbridge net for a second Tullylish goal, with Quinn also pointing.
Meanwhile Clann na Banna could only reply with first half points from Rory Hill, Gary Quinn and Liam Devlin.
Tullylish maintained their momentum after the break firing over three times without reply, these points coming from Fionntan O'Dowd and two from Chris McGovern.
But Banbridge got back into the match on 40 minutes when Johnny Burns, with his first kick after coming on as a substitute, firing home a great goal after a John Paul Gartland rocket rebounded to him via the woodwork.
And Banbridge added to their tally through Patrick Feeney with two points while Conor Lenaghan got on the scoresheet.
But Tullylish survived that Clann pressure in the final quarter to ease into the semi-final with Drainey firing over their last score.
