McGuigan's A 5. CWC A 4.
McGUIGAN'S A got the new season up and running in style by knocking CWC A from the Vegas Cup in a thrilling manner.
The Working Men took the opener via Kieran McMahon but then the Macs reeled off three frames on the bounce, via P McComiskey, Kieran Hanna and Brian Campbell. CWC however, stormed back in super fashion with P Kelland, P McKay and B O'Neill on song to give them a 4-3 advantage.
But the home side romped to the winning post when Gab McGuigan and B Healy each winning.
Sheepbridge 6 Bosco 3
BOSCO blasted into a 2-1 and then a 3-1 advantage but rivals Sheepbridge were ready for the long haul and blitzed their rivals by winning the last five frames and making the Vegas Cup cut. Sheepbridge: Sean Markey, Micky Cunningham, Pat Kearns, Barry Duffy, Collie Loughran and Gwyn Trainor. Bosco: K McMahon, D Devlin and A Morgan.
Bellini's 6 Killeavy 3
KILLEAVY led 2-1 and 3-2 in the Vegas Cup but Bellini's took the last four to make the next round of the competition.
Bellini's: Seamus Pearse, Mickey Fegan, Patrick Fegan, Stephen Byrne, Kevin Pearse and Charlie Broughton. Killeavy: Daryl Shevlin, Stephen Taggart and Tom Magennis.
Millvale Arms 5 CWC B 4
CWC B and the Millvale Arms were all square after six frames but the Millvale boys won the last couple to make the second round of the Vegas Cup. Millvale: Robbie Black, David Rolston, Dan O'Hare, Steven Weir and Willie Hughes. CWC: Peter Cahill, Paul Kelland and Gerard Mackey.
Trainor's 4 McGuigan's B 5
TRAINOR'S and McGuigan's B were all square after two frames and four frames. However, the Monaghan Street Macs won three from the last five to progress in the Vegas Cup. Trainor's: D Finnegan, O Lonergan, M Trainor and M Holland. McGuigan's: Tomas Loughran, Paul McAleavey, Austin Gilbraith, D Flanagan and Daniel McGuigan.
Ballyholland Harps 9 St Moninna INF 0
IT was all too easy for Ballyholland Harps as they brushed the unfortunate St Moninna INF and their scorers were: Jim McMahon, Anthony Campbell, Sean McCrink, Brendan Keenan, Colm Shields, Gerard McEvoy, Giby Vittiankel, Barry Fegan and David McEvoy.
Armaghdown 2 St Catherine's 7
ARMAGHDOWN were in the hunt after three frames but thereafter rivals St Catherine's ruled the roost, won the six five and comfortably made the second round of the Vegas Cup. Armaghdown: Chris Coffey and Sean O'Callaghan. Saints: Eugene McKibben, Mark Pentony, Ciaran Morgan, Adrian O'Hanlon, Brian Dillon, Gerry McKevitt and Kieran Cummins.
Johnny Murphy's 1 Eiluco Boys 8
EILUCO Boys romped to victory and a place in the next round of the Vegas Cup when they slammed Johnny Murphy's 8-1. And indeed the Meigh side only avoided the brush by winning the last frame. Murphy's: Kieran Larkin. Boys: Mark Kearney, Eugene Conlon, John Magee, Joe Magill, Peter Magee, Tommy O'Hanlon, Adrian O'Hagan and Mick McArdle.
Newry City B 1 Whitecross 8
NEWRY City B won the first frame against Whitecross but that was as good as it would get for them as thereafter the county Armagh team blasted to the tape by winning the remaining eight frames. City: D McBirney. Whitecross: Cathal Phelan, Mickey Feenan, Gareth McCann, Shane Phelan, Mickey O'Hanlon, Brian O'Neill, Mark O'Hanlon and Gavin Malone.
Glenn Social Club 6 Carrickcruppen 3
GLENN Social Club raced into a 2-0 lead but Carrickcruppen battled back to level at two apiece. The teams were still on par after six frames but the Camlough team couldn't maintain their recovery with Glenn taking the final three frames for victory. Glenn: Patrick Kennedy, Joe Sands, Ronan Morgan, Ben Machin, Aodhan Boyle and Raymond Sands. Carrickcruppen: John Brannigan, Ian McDonald and Pat Byrne.
Railway Bar 0 Newry City A 9
NEWRY City A were just too strong for the Railway Bar, the Slickers running out 9-0 victors. City: Alan Kane, John Judge, Paul Fitzpatrick, Hugh Henry, Paddy Caldwell, Conor Quinn, Hammy Henry and Jim Henry.
Corrinshego A 7 McSwiggan's 2
CORRINSHEGO A wasted no time racing into a healthy lead against McSwiggan's. The former multiple Division One champions took the first four frames, lost one but then rattled off three on the bounce to make the second round of the Vegas Cup. Corrinshego: R McKenna, H Lavelle, P Clarke, S McGeoghegan, P Tavey, N McVerry and T Mooney. McSwiggan's: Paul Morgan and Tiarnan O'Hare.
Grand Hotel Omeath 3 Indo A 6
INDO A travelled to Omeath to take on the Grand Hotel and their journey was fruitful as they won their way into the second round of the Vegas Cup with a 6-3 margin. The Newry side won the first four fames and then eased to the line by taking two from the last five. Grand Hotel: Gerard Davis, Anthony McCarthy and Stephen Heaney. Indo: Cormac Duffy, Nicky Connell, Ronan Curran, Johnny Sloan, Sean Curran and Barney O'Connor.
TJ's D 2 Dan's C 7
DAN'S C got off to a blistering start, winning the first five frames ... and this Vegas Cup tie. Still in the final few frames rivals TJ's D grabbed a couple of consolations. TJ's: J Havern and J McArdle. Dan's: Seamus McVerry, Paddy Smith, Jimmy McVerry, Mark McGuirk, Seamus Tumilty, Terry Phoenix and Peter Havern.
Moore's B 4 Hockey Club 5
HOCKEY Club rocketed into the second round of the Vegas Cup when they won the first five frames. Moore's B won the last four but by then they were playing merely for pride. Moore's: Margaret Ireland, Katrina Fearon, Robbie Conway and Bernie Tremers. Hockey: J McMurray, T McGahan, P Taylor, R Taylor and D McArdle.
Cavern A 0 TJ's A 9
TJ'S A travelled to Church Street and brushed Cavern A to make the next round of the Vegas Cup and their winners were: Steve Noade, Decky McMahon, Gavin Magee, Manny Byrne, Tristan Byrne, Decky McConville, Jack Courtney, Davy Hanna and Larry McAlinden.
Moore's A 2 Quayside Ramblers 7
MOORE'S A began brightly and roared into a 2-1 lead. However, that was the best part of their night as rivals Quayside Ramblers wrapped up this Vegas Cup tie by winning the next six frames. Moore's: Gareth Treanor and Mickey McClelland. Ramblers: P McCarneghan, J O'Hare, L McAlinden, A Doyle, M Nugent, R Rice and D McKeown.
Boyd's 8 Cavern Reds 1
BOYD'S had virtually no trouble making the next round of the Vegas Cup as they won 8-1 against Cavern Reds. Boyd's: Kris Fletcher, Jeremy O'Brien, Jamie Fletcher, Killian Donnelly, Jim Boyd, James Boyd and Billy Hunt. Reds: Brian McParland.
Indo B 4 TJ's B 5
INDO B were level with TJ's B after four frames but the city centre side wrapped up the Vegas Cup tie by grabbing the next three frames. Indo: Collie McLoughlin, Colm Cahill, Brendan Bull and Paddy Smith. TJ's: Niall O'Hare, Sean McKevitt, Mark Maguire, Mark Hughes and Sean Monaghan.
Quayside A 0 TJ's C 9
IT was elementary for TJ's C as they brushed Quayside A and their nine scorers were: Matt Cartmill, Jason Lennon, Gavin McNally, Harry Brady, Liam Downey, Sean Rice, Nicky Irwin, Johnny Adams and D Mac an tSaoir.
Corrinshego C 3 Bears 6
BEARS began impressively and quickly won their way into the next round of the Vegas Cup by taking five from the first six frames. Corrinshego took two from the last three but it just wasn't enough. Corrinshego: Ronan O'Reilly, Pearse Casey and Shane McVerry. Bears: D Loughran, D Cully, S Keenan, P Murphy, E Heaney and P Heaney.
