Moving on up

WARRENPOINT Town have moved out of the relegation zone of the Dankse Bank Irish Premier League following a 2-0 Boxing Day win over Ards.
Played at the Seasiders' home ground at Milltown, Stephen 'Giggsy' McCabe bagged a brace to give Warrenpoint's survival hopes a massive shot in the arm.
And it wasn't a game easy on the heart for the Town supporters as once again the floodlights flickered off and to have a second game abandoned would have been disastrous.
Warrenpoint manager Barry Gray was a relieved and happy man at the final whistle, which was blown as the floodlight went out during injury-time.
“These lights are going to put me in an early grave," said Gray.
The Seasiders have a wonderful opportunity to close the gap on fourth from bottom Ballinamallard, who they face on New Year's Day (tomorrow).
Momentum is with the south Down side as they travel to the Fermanagh side, who are chasing their first league win since December 7.
Warrenpoint's landmark Boxing Day win over Ards gives the club its first ever back-to-back victories in the Irish Premiership, which pleases Gray.
“The boys were hungry for it and indeed we are playing much better in recent weeks," he said.
Warrenpoint are currently third from bottom, on 19 points, with Ballinamallard one place above on 25 points. Coleraine dropped one place below the Seasiders on 18 points, while Ards are bottom with 13 points.
So a result on New Year's Day is imperative if Warrenpoint Town want to build on the favourable position they are in. Kick-off is at 3pm.
