BELLEEK boxer Fearghus Quinn is one fight away from being crowned U18 75 kilo All-Ireland Champion after winning his semi-final bout at the weekend.
The Camlough ABC boxer, who edged past Sacred Heart's Conor Wallace earlier in the month, out-pointed John G Lawrence from Eagle ABC of Westport, Mayo, winning 3-0.
As a result Quinn will contest in the All-Ireland Final in Dublin's famous National Stadium on Friday (January 24), where he will fight Cork's Luke Thomas.
Quinn boxed the semi-final with great composure, making several great single jabs to his opponents' head, which caught the eye of the judges.
The south Armagh young man enjoyed an excellent second round where he forced the Mayo boxer to a standing eight count, after Quinn delivered a solid left hook to the head.
Inevitably in the fourth round Lawrence gave everything he had but the composed Camlough ABC boxer held firm to see out victory.
On Friday Quinn's opponent will be no stranger to the Dublin arena as he already has seven national titles to his name.
The Belleek mild mannered lad has already fought Thomas, when two years ago he lost by three points, using the old computer scoring system.
But Camlough ABC coaches Martin McCusker and Marty Mulholland believes that the new scoring system may suit their boxer.
“It suits the style that Fearghus boxes and I predict an upset in Dublin this coming Friday," said McCusker.
“It would be a great honour for Camlough ABC, Fearghus Quinn and Belleek, if he could lift this title."
