Kane Hungary to Tuck in
Tuesday, 17 June 2014
NEWRY'S Bosco boxer Kane Tucker has been selected to train in the Irish High Performance Gym on Wednesday ahead of the European Championships, which take place in Hungary later this month.
Tucker was fighting in the Irish Junior Cadet Championships, which act as European qualifier, where the Newry boxer won his final with a unanimous 3-0 decision against Jack Conroy from the Elite Boxing Club in Mullingar.
However, two of Tucker's club-mates just missed out on being selected.
First up was Neil Mathers, who had a great final and lost on a close 2-1 split decision against Conal Ross from Dockers ABC Belfast.
While Brendan McParland also had a great final but unfortunately also lost on a 2-1 split decision.
The training camp should be an excellent experience for young Tucker and if he continues to improve then there should be no stopping the young quick-jabber.
Kane's dad Barry who coaches alongside Adrian Patterson said he was proud of all the young boxers at his club.
“We at the club wish Kane all the best and hope he brings the first European medal back to Newry," said Barry Tucker.
“We are disappointed that the other two lads didn't qualify. But they have had a great season as has the club with another four Irish titles and numerous Ulster and Mid-Ulster titles."
Tucker senior thanked sponsors and parents for their continued support, including Adrian McGovern of Bulls Gym Newry who not only provided
expert strength and conditioning training
but also allowed the young lads free use of his gyms facilitate.
Tucker also thanked local businesses BHP Accountants and Inscape Flowers for their
support as two of the coaches work there and it's a great inconvenience losing staff on some of the busy days.
