Tuckers excel in Germany

THE Tucker boxing brothers, Jake and Kane were selected as part of a strong Ulster High Performance team that competed in the fourth annual Sven Lange Memorial Cup in Schwerin Germany.
First up was younger brother 15-year-old who fought in an U17 tournament. Jake was up against a strong local favourite Leo Cvitanovic, but the Newry lad got onto his rhythm from the opening bell and scored a wide range of punches.
Totally out-boxing his opponent, Tucker left the German corner no option but to throw the towel in early in the second round. Older brother Kane also boxed German lad Richard Manthai in the semi-final. The German came out aggressive and tried to mix it with Kane, until 30 seconds into the first round Kane hit him with a combination of devastating power-punches to head and body, leaving the German corner team and again the German's had to throw the towel in.
The boys both met two of the French National team in their finals. Jake had a brilliant performance again totally dominating from the opening bell and won on a unanimous decision. And to top this off Jake also picked up Best Technical Boxer of the tournament, which is an amazing achievement considering he was the youngest in the tournament.
Kane also met a very tough French champion at 75kgs this was a contest not for the faint hearted with both lads landing some heavy shots. But it was Kane's timing power and ring craft that started to show in the second round.
In the third the referee had to jump in and save the French lad and give him a standing eight count.
Kane also won gold with a unanimous decision. The boys would just like to thank their coaches at Holy Trinity for all their hard work, the High Performance coaches that took them out, their strength and conditioning coach Aaron Donaghy and a massive thank you to their sponsor EOS IT Solutions.
