BURREN MINORS IN ULSTER FINAL thumbnailTHE Burren squad, with manager Neil Coulter, assistant Jimmy McAlinden and club chairman Paul Fegan

BURREN Minors will give everything as they take on Kilrea in the Ulster Final at St Paul's, Belfast on New Year's Day (throw-in 1.30pm).

It's the first time the St Marys' squad have ever been in the final and in fact it's the only trophy the club haven't won. Burren got to the final by beating Dunloy and Eniskillen Gaels.

Manager Neil Coulter told the Democrat: "We'll give it a hell of a go. We have a good team, including six county Minors; Peter Fegan, Conor Cox, Declan Murdock, Shay Murdock, Ronan Fegan and Peter Fegan while Shea Fitzpatrick is also a big player for us.

“We are physically strong up the middle and our defence is solid. Hopefully we'll get a good start and then we won't be far away. We will meet Kilrea... they are hot favourite for the trophy."

Kilrea saw off Carrickmore in the Boxing Day semi-final on a score of 1-11 to 2-7.

Top marksman Liam Kerr said: "It's a competition that Burren have been looking to win for quite a while. After we won the Down Championship, this is what we're been aiming for. We're confident and we've worked really hard the whole year for this - so hopefully we do the business."

Meanwhile joint captain Conor Cox said: "When you get to the final you want to win it and it will be a great honour for us to do so."
