Busy Christmas for SGR thumbnailSpecial mention to Chris Devine who came first, setting a new course record of 17.32. SGR’S Paddy Hamilton came second in the Greencastle five miler on Boxing Day.

BURREN 12 mile and six mile races on Boxing Day

In the 12 mile race: Mike Barnett 1.28.51, Pat Rocks and Tony McAteer 1.33.23, Kealan Curran 1.37.59, Willie McCracken 1.43.32 and Noel Moan (snr) 2.13.25.

In the six mile race: Gerard McAleenan 45.23, David Love 46.35, Ciaran Mc Bride 49.40 and Conor Mc Cracken 59.21.


Greencastle five mile road race on Boxing Day

Well done to Allan Ovens who ran the race in 38.13 and Barbara Fleming-Ovens (42.36).

SGR's Paddy Hamilton finished in second place as he recorded a superb 25:25, finishing just seconds behind winner and former club mate Paul Pollock of Annadale strikers.


Castlewellan Christmas Cracker

Over 1,000 runners enjoyed the annual Castlewellan Christmas Cracker held on December 27, with some interesting Christmas outfits to add to the fun factor.

This 8.5 mile, mostly off-road course is ran in pairs, so the person you run with, you must reach the finish-line with. 

It was great to see local clubs mixing and working together as a team. 

In amongst a very high standard of competitors, 5th place overall went to Don Travers (NCR) and Joe McKevitt (Slieve Gullion Runners) who finished with 54.16.

Well done to all who took part; Duddy Parr (NCR) and Colm Murtagh (Newcastle AC) 59.32, Peter Linden and Aine Fegan 1.12.39, Shane O'Callaghan and Mike Barnett 1.14.08, Eva Kitchen and Damien Maguire 1.26, Caroline Wade (City of Lisburn) and Anne Havern 1.35.19, Fiona Murphy and Colm Fearon 1.52.59, Lorna Murphy and Maureen O'Hare 1.53.05, Joy Morgan and Liz Graham 1.53.11 and Karen McElroy and Janine Burns 1.57.00.


East Antrim series B2Back marathons

Well done to Karen Mc Elroy who ran two marathons in two days on December 30 and 31. What a way to finish a brilliant year for Karen!

SGR duo Eamon Murphy and Barry McCarroll completed the back to back marathon distance with Barry winning the marathon on day two with a great time of 3.15.

Eamon, having completed the b2b marathons, has now a tally of 20 marathons for 2016 and 40 marathons in total.


Run for Raff

Well done to all who ran the Run for Raff in Poyntzpass on December 27.


Kilbroney Park run

Well done to all our park runners in the last of the park runs in Kilbroney of 2016.
