Rostrevor Hopes And Dreams At Cheltenham
Tuesday, 14 March 2017
ROSTREVOR horse owner Sean Sweeney hopes to make his mark at this year's Cheltenham Festival.
This Thursday (March 16) at 2.10pm in the Pertemps Network handicap hurdle, locally owned horse 'Isleofhopeanddreams' lines up as a lively contender for the prestigious contest over the extended two miles and seven furlongs trip.
The horse is owned by Sweeney, who heads the horse racing syndicate 'Kilbroney Racing' and the horse is currently in training with leading handler Willie Mullins.
The consistent 10-year-old, who has had plenty of setbacks, seems to have got his act together and comes into this contest on the back off an eye-catching victory at Punchestown racecourse on February 5, where he was ridden to perfection with an off the pace ride by jockey Danny Mullins, who spoke exclusively to The Newry Democrat.
“Though this horse is going an extra few furlongs at Cheltenham, it wouldn't do him any harm and I'd like soft ground for him, he is a serious contender with a real chance of winning the race," said Mullins.
The Cheltenham festival gets underway today (Tuesday), see Page 42 for the 3 Furlong's Racing Cheltenham preview.
