PADRAIG Mallon and his Infinity Channel Swimming team are now in the business of helping people make their life-long dreams come true.

Indeed in the past 14 days the Bessbrook man has masterminded three North Channel crossings - thus taking his tally of successful crossings to eight.

It's an obsession for the busy Mallon who has a first class team in his Infinity stable, with Kieran McClelland, Jacqueline McClelland, Milo McCourt, Chris Cook, Olive Conroy, Ian Conroy, Carmen Abatherap and Aoiffe Lynch-McCourt as the core of his hard-working squad.

In three days the Infinity Channel swimming team have guided Cork lady Carmel Collins, South African Herman van Der Westhuizen, and Lancashire's Jonathan Ratcliffe across the tough North Channel.

Speaking to the Democrat Padraig said: "It's a passion with me. But there's a huge amount of work to get things right, particularly the tides and the weather.

" We also have to encourage the swimmers when things get hard, as they will. It's no walk in the park.

However, it's great when it all comes together.

"Solo swimming across the Channel is really a team effort and we want everyone who attempts it to succeed. We have spent the past seven years, learning about piloting, crewing and of course swimming," said Mallon.

Padraig himself is an English and North Channel conqueror, as well as completing various other challenging swims in all parts of the world. Also members of his team have participated in relay swims across the Channels.

Thus would-be Channel conquerors will know when they take on the mighty seas they will have on their side thet back-up and experience that is available.
