LAST Saturday afternoon at the Athletic Grounds, Clann Eireann, Lurgan, won their first county Armagh Minor title since 1993 at the expense of Crossmaglen Rangers.

It was an absorbing, skilful, entertaining final of the highest intensity but spare a thought for the defeated finalists, the Cross youngsters who were pushing hard to win their fourth minute title in a row.

Clanns were ahead 1-7 to 2-3 at the interval but going a man down early in the second half saw Cross' take the lead.

For the rest of the half it was 'nip and tuck', end-to-end with no let up in intensity as both teams stayed determined to win the final.

Going into the last minute the sides were level and in extra time a visionary Dan McCarthy pass for Ruairi McConville to clip over the winner.

Great praise must be given to the young men of Crossmaglen who graciously stayed on the field to witness a fitting end to a fabulous Minor final.

Best for Clanns were Tiernan Kelly, Mark Cooper, Ruairi and Aodhan McConville and Jack Haddock.

For Cross', Cian McConville (son of Jim), Patsy Finnegan, Oran Kieran and Stephen Morgan excelled.
