MAYOBRIDGE Camogs completed a Down U14 League and Championship double in a whirlwind winning week.

On Tuesday the Sky Blues beat neighbours Clonduff 6-06 to 3-04 in a thrilling contest played at Kilcoo, to clinch the League title, which followed their championship win only two days previous.

From the first touch the Sky Blues dominated, driving the ball forward giving multiple chances for scores but it was Clonduff who pointed the first score onto the board followed closely by a goal. Mayobridge overcame their early nerves and midfield challenged the opposition and shifted play towards Caitlin Coulter who soon found the back of the net, followed closely by another cracking goal from Grace Cunningham.

Play moved from one end of the pitch to the other with both teams tagging on scores. Caitlin, Ella Gribben and Grace fired over a few points but Clonduff did not hold back and soon busted the net, going into half time level pegging.

Mayobridge upped their tempo in the second half as their defence played brilliantly and went through a mountain of work to get the ball to the forward line.

Aoife Trainor worked tirelessly and was rewarded with two points followed by a wonderful goal showcasing her determination. With fantastic team work heading up the field Caitlin buried two more goals tallying up a fantastic 3-01. Mayobridge restricted Clonduff to scoring 1-01 in the second half and Grace topped off a fine performance with a superb point.

And Ella Gribben finished the night with a well deserved goal, which secured the title. This was a true display of talented camogie players from both sides.

Clonduff have been Mayobridge's biggest threat this year and have come out deserving runners up.

The Sky Blues won the Championship title only two days earlier in Fontenoy Park, where they were convincing 9-10 to 2-0 winners over Castlewellan.

Mayobridge started off brightly from the throw in.

Grace Cunningham gained possession and with the first touch she opened the scoring for the Sky Blues.

Great tackling and pressure ensured that the 'Bridge girls were on top in every position. Caitlin Coulter (3-3) led by example in full forward, however her team mates have to be praised for providing her with quality balls and Ellie Carr (1-0), Ceri Magone (1-0) found the target too.

Castlewellan replied with two goals but Mayobridge held firm with Ella Rice in goals provided some great saves and her poc outs were magnificent.

Mayobridge began the second half in the manner they finished the first. One highlight from the second half, that did not go unnoticed was from a puck into our defence, landing in the hand of Rachael Green, she effortlessly cleared to midfield and passed into the front line to be popped over the bar by Coulter.

It was these skilful and simple passes that saw futher success with Laura Greenan, Grace Cunningham (0-3) and Ella Gribben on fire gaining possession in midfield tallying up further scores. Aoife Trainor (3-0) worked tirelessly and scored three unbelievable goals. Aoibeann Woods dominated the defence and in true Aoibheann fashion she hassled for each ball and did not disappoint, she has been a consistent performer throughout the season and a true example of a captain.

These girls worked so hard all over the field and each played a vital roll to become deserving champions.
