Tipton Tight-Lipped Over Glentoran Link.

Tuesday, 27 February 2018

WARRENPOINT Town manager Matthew Tipton preferred not to comment when questioned about the vacant manager's position at Glentoran.

Glentoran sacked their manager Gary Haveron after 17 months in charge at the Oval and Tipton has been linked by several publications as a possible runner to take the helm at the Belfast club.

Tipton guided Warrenpoint Town back to the Danske Bank Championship at his first attempt by winning the Championship last season, and currently has his side seven points above a play-off position at the bottom of the table.

With Ronnie McFall returning to management of the Belfast side until the end of the season, there isn't expected to be any announcements ahead of the close season.

Tipton said his priority is to get help guide Warrenpoint to as many league points as possible, starting with tonight's game against his old friend McFall at the Oval tonight.

Tipton is unfazed with the speculation, he has made the Warrenpoint team his own with his in-depth knowledge of Irish League and League of Ireland football.

Meanwhile Warrenpoint Town captain Stephen Moan has said it is vital his team get off to a good start tonight, following Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Coleraine.

"Travelling down to the Oval is never an easy task so we will have to be at our best if we want to pick up points," said Moan.

"The last time we faced Glentoran we lost 3-2. A game in which we could have easily picked up points. We must go into this game with the same positive attitude and continue to create chances.

"Ards recently picked up points at the Oval, so there is no reason why we can't do the same.

"Glentoran have appointed a new manager so this might give them a new lease of life, as the players will be out to impress.

Therefore, it is vital that we start off on the front foot, and every man works hard and wins their battles all over the field."

Kick-off at the Oval tonight (Tuesday) is at 7.45pm.
