IN the Carlingford (Glenmore) 5K, a very popular race, Newry City Runners put in a good show, with impressive times. Indeed on a warm evening there were PBs all round as well as category winners.

Chris Devine was first NCR home and had another great performance after the Rossi EJ5K, getting a new PB of 16:08 and he was followed over the line by Conor Morgan with an impressive 17:43 (PB).

Further results: Bernard Hamill 18:13 (PB), Laura Devine making her comeback with a bang, was next across the finishing line, and first NCR lady with an impressive 20:19, Pat Rocks 20:21 (category winner), Patricia Brown 20:45 (category winner), Damian McCann 23:12 (PB), Conor Devlin 23:38 (PB), William McCracken 23:43 (third in his category), Michele Mowlds 23:55 (PB), Caoimhe O’Gorman 24:15 (PB), Brigine Morgan 25:20 (PB) and Karen McElroy 25.34, the latter who was carrying an injury but still put in a super performance.

Mount Stewart – Half Marathon

NCR Queen of Races Jennifer McAteer let her feet do the talking yet again, and set off for Mount Stewart to run the trails in their Half Marathon. It was a tough and hilly route, with an amount of hills that Jennifer did not expect and on a warm Saturday evening. Yet this did not deter or hinder Jennifer’s performance, as she completed the course in an impressive 2:48:01.

Summer Breeze Half Marathon – San Leandro – California

IF it is warm weather here for racing, it’s definitely more so in California. Sinead Gallagher took time out on her summer vacation to don the blue and yellow vest and participated in the Summer Breeze Half Marathon in San Leandro. That Californian Sunshine did not stop her from having a brilliant run with a time of 1:44:15. Not only that but she was ninth female, fifth in her age group and 32nd overall.

Mullaghbawn 10K

DAMIAN McCann and Damien Maguire took part in a hilly and tough Mullaghbawn 10K on Sunday. This course is a tough one at the best of times, but was heightened with the heat on the day. Well done to both.

Meanwhile well done to Maureen O’Hare who completed Bessbrook Duathlon on Friday. Maureen completed the event in 1:25:42 with splits of 19:44 (R), 41:09 (B) and 2:20 (second run).

Two more NCR took their running shoes on holidays. Peter Linden and Eva Kitchen participated in Burham Club Run event, for those marshalling at the Burnham Half Marathon next week. On a course, not unlike Gosford, Peter and Eva ran in 28 degrees of heat, with equally sizzling performances of 1:47 and 1:57 respectively.

Rostrevor Park Run

WELL done to Caoimhe O’Gorman who took part in Rostrevor Park Run the morning after achieving her PB in Carlingford. Caoimhe completed the course in 27:46

Please continue to support the Rostrevor Run and PM their Facebook page if you are free to marshal in the coming weeks/months.

The Armagh City Marathon takes place on Sunday, August 26 and for the last two years NCR had an excellent turnout and once again the club would like to put some relay teams together and send them to take part in a great event.
