THREE Newry City Runners took to the coast on Saturday for the multi-terrain eight-mile Dundrum race.

Thankfully the conditions were a little better than last year which helped on a surface that ranged from stones to boardwalk and even two miles on sand.

Lorna Murphy was first NCR home in 1:13:44, making a great comeback after sustaining an injury in the same race last year.

One of the club’s newest 2018 members, Fidelma Fearon ran well, finishing in 1:17:09, while Damian McCann also had a great race, clocking 1:21:33.

Meanwhile Forkhill’s 10k Race around the Brack always proves to be a popular event. And although it’s an undulating course that includes Cardiac Hill in the middle, this didn’t deter a good showing from NCR.

The weather eased off nicely in time for the start of a race, thus giving the runners a chance to grab good performances. The first NCR member home was Conor Morgan, fifth in 42:58. Very impressive when considering he had almost a kilometre to make up on the frontrunners.

Eva Kitchen was the first NCR female home in 48:15 (fourth female overall) and she was closely followed by Damien Maguire in 48:16.

Brigine Morgan was timed at 49:40, while Michele Mowlds clocked 53:35 (a new PB). Sarah Campbell wasn’t too far behind in 54:47 with Karen McElroy following in 56:33.

Paul McConville also continued his great form with a 58:02 time and Jennifer McAteer finished in 1:12:07. Well done everyone, great running on a tough course.

Congrats to Pat Patricia and Laura

The NCR club would like to extend its congratulations to Patricia Brown, Pat Rocks and Laura Devine who, following excellent performances at the NIMAA Cross Country Masters last weekend, will travel to Swansea next month to represent Northern Ireland in the UK Masters.

Congratulations also to Laura’s husband Chris, who for the third consecutive year will represent his native Scotland in Swansea. Congratulations everyone and good luck in the event.

Finally Pat Rocks took part as tail-walker in this week’s Rostrevor Parkrun while Patricia Brown and Jennifer McAteer marshalled. Please continue to support your local parkrun either by participating (it’s great hill training) or volunteering.

PM Rostrevor parkrun Facebook page if you are free to volunteer.
