Coulter Calls It

IT was a great weekend for sport in general with some great games and shock results all over the country.

Armagh were impressive on Saturday but if truth be told Donegal was abysmal and I don't think the Armagh lads will read too much into the game.

Jamie Clarke had a stormer and cleaned out any Donegal defender that came his way. He is going to be a marked man for the rest of the year and I am sure he will come in for some special attention by defenders throughout Ireland.

But fair play to Paddy O'Rourke for giving this lad his chance, because at the minute he is the Young Player of the Year.

It was sad to see the Donegal players who were substituted laughing and joking in the dugouts when their team was being annihilated. Donegal players don't seem to be interested in the well-being of their county and I feel that next year there will be a major clear out in the county set-up.

It was sad to see Paddy Bradley quitting the Derry squad before the game against Carlow.

Paddy is being slated within his own county but the fact is that Damien Cassidy wanted to drop him because he is saying he wasn't good enough.

Paddy is one of the best footballers in Ireland never mind Derry and he has not missed one training session this year. I feel the manager wanted to try and stamp his authority within the squad but would he have wanted to drop Paddy if Derry was pitted against a stronger opposition?

Louth are in their first Leinster final since 1960 and they thoroughly deserved it after a great footballing display on Sunday evening.

Some of their scores were of the highest order and it is great to see players like Paddy Keenan and Shane Lennon getting the recognition they deserve.

Louth have always been a big test for Down in previous years and from knowing a few of the players I have no doubt that they will be brimming with confidence going into the Leinster final.

Longford at home in the qualifiers is as reasonable draw for us. Getting home advantage is a great boost in these games but we have to be wary of Longford after they beat Mayo at the weekend.

Mayo were in a Division One Final earlier in the year and Longford will come to Newry full of confidence.

Armagh won't be happy travelling to Brewster Park to meet Fermanagh but after the Erne County collapsed to Monaghan on Sunday you would expect Armagh to win easily.
