Big O

HELLO again and welcome, As the economic downturn continues, it seems to have hit Warrenpoint in a big way.

As I was coming into Warrenpoint, I nearly knocked down the sign saying 'Warrenpoint welcomes careful drivers', when I read the sign beside it 'Warrenpoint Golf Club membership available'!

You could have knocked me down with a feather! I remember when it was nearly impossible to become a member as there was a five year waiting list.

Now I must admit, I'm not a golfer. I tried a few times but I couldn't get into the swing of it!

The few times I did play golf was in Kilkeel and Ballymascanlon, I wouldn't go to Warrenpoint I was afraid of making a fool of myself! I'm thinking of having a go again, Pat Trainor reckons he can teach me to play without leaving the house.

Now that sounds like my kind of game, I'm glad I have double glazing in case I break my windows!

Although I don't play I've appeared in lots of golf clubs both here and across the water in England and Scotland.

After dinner speaking at Captain's winter league and cabaret dinners has always been well received.

This Friday night I'll be in Warrenpoint doing my show for Club Down who are having a golf classic. Sadly, Pat will not have me ready for this one maybe next time!

My favourite time of year has rolled around again, yes Blues On The Bay is here! I must say I'm so looking forward to it, among my favourite acts are Mirenda Rosenburg, Hatfitz, The Red Hot Roosters and Rev Doc.

Once again well done to Ian Sands he has certainly put Warrenpoint on the entertainment map.

Congratulations to Mayor John Feehan on a fantastic charity ball with the great and the good from across the political divide and from local agencies and businesses all doing their bit.

Until next week, take care and God bless, Big O.
