HELLO again and welcome, my ambition in life is to make people happy, through my career as a stand up comedy and my radio programmes, it gives me great satisfaction to know I’m bringing a little joy and laughter into peoples lives, I’ve done my best to promote local talent and will continue to do so.
I’ve raised money for many good causes but I’ve never had as much joy and fun as I did when raising money for our Special Olympians who head away to Limerick for the National Games tomorrow (Wednesday).
Last Wednesday I was at St Mary’s High School when the PSNI arrived with the Flame Of Hope on its way to Limerick.
The staff and pupils did themselves proud with a quite fantastic reception, the atmosphere in the Assembly Hall was electric as the Special Olympian and the PSNI carried the torch into the room, it was brilliant, well done to all.
A special train will leave Belfast tomorrow (Wednesday) en route to Limerick carrying young athletes. The train will be in Newry at 10 o’clock to pick up the Newry and Mourne Special Olympians.
But before they head off my good friend John McParland, of the Canal Court, is treating them all to a hearty Irish breakfast in the Carrickdale Hotel before they head of on the train to Limerick.
It was through Esther King that I got involved in the fundraising, in around eight weeks we raised 15,000 pounds and I must thank Billy and Jane Finnegan whose help was invaluable. I was hoping to get down to Limerick to see my friends compete but sadly I’m busy.
That won’t stop me wishing each and every athlete all the best especially my right hand woman Veronica Donnelly, but I will be around to welcome everyone home, hopefully with loads of medals.
Come autumn we’ll be fundraising again for the World Games next year.
Until next week take care and God bless, Big O.
