Big O

HELLO again and welcome. Our special Olympians were given a fantastic send off last week on their way to the National Games in Limerick after a hearty breakfast courtesy of the Carrickdale Hotel, it was on to Trainor’s Coach en route to the railway station in Newry.

We had one more stop before we reached the station, Cloghogue Primary School, where the staff and pupils lined up with banners and flags chanting "Ferghal, Ferghal" as they paid tribute to their star pupil Ferghal.

So it was off to the station where we were met by the fantastic railway staff as we waited for the special train already half full with athletes from Belfast, Lisburn, Lurgan and Portadown.

We were entertained by St Catherine’s Concert Band.

The atmosphere was electric as the athletes danced around while the band played, Mayor John Feehan, Paddy Duffy, the parents and supporters of athletes cheered as these fantastic young people with their mentors boarded the train for Limerick going with our best wishes.

The World Cup has started and the country is now full of soccer widows. The English supporters will be watching in HD, high disappointment once again.

I'm a Man United fan, you might be a Liverpool or Chelsea fan, and it's not the England team I don't like, it’s the commentators who go on and on about England and still can't get past 1966.

I think the World Cup is wide open and I'll be watching France with interest to see how they do and wonder if it might have been us. I fancy Spain and good luck to Down on Saturday.

And finally don't forget the Kilbroney Vintage Car Show this Saturday in Rostrevor. Once again the Council and the Lions Club have pulled out all the stops to make this a fantastic day out, with all the money going to local charities.

Until next week take care and God bless, Big O.
