HELLO again and welcome, Well done to our Special Olympians, I was at Newry Train Station to welcome them home.
The excitement was at fever pitch as the train pulled into the station and off they got with a ton of medals: gold, silver and bronze. I'm sure they would want me to mention their trainers, mentors and parents who do a fantastic job all year. I must say you don't get as good as these athletes without training very hard.
This is a dedicated bunch who gave all their time to the sport well done to everyone.
We have a new leader, many congrats to our new mayor Mick Murphy and his lady in waiting Karen McKevitt.
They make a lovely couple and should do us all proud as Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Newry and Mourne. I rang Mick to congratulate and then asked him to host a civic reception for our Special Olympians and all their trainers and mentors.
These young people deserve to be recognised for the way they represented Newry and Mourne and I know Mick won't let me down. Don't forget the Gateway big broadcast in Bellini's at the end of the month kicking of at seven through until midday.
This column has to be good this week as my New York critic who reads on line every week is home for a holiday.
Big Liam McCormack, his son Ryan and his sister Rosemary flew from New York to surprise their daddy for Father’s Day, there is no better gift than that so I hope they enjoy their stay.
My old buddy Danny Kennedy has retired from the council as a gift I sent him a vuvuzela so now he can blow his own trumpet!
Til' next week, God bless and take care, Big O
