Big O

HELLO again and welcome. As my fitness regime continues I've just finished my eight weeks in Newry Sports Centre.

John 'Bald Eagle' O'Hanlon and his staff were superb though his assistant Francie 'Snow White' Craven didn't do a lot and Tommy ‘ I once played for Man Utd' Connell taxed his car.

John O'Hanlon is also a part time fireman and he's on the team of local firefighters who intend to climb Four Peaks in 48 hours (Banjo couldn't do that!).

The four mountains are our own Slieve Donard which is 849 metres high, then they dash to Wicklow to climb Lurgan Quilla, 838 metres high, and after that they head to Kerry to climb Ireland’s highest peak, Carrauntoohil, 1038 metres, and finally to Co Mayo to climb the pilgrimage peak Croagh Patrick, 764 metres.

The four peak challenge will take place on July 9, 10 and 11 with all money raised going to Newry Hospice. The firemen will be collecting throughout Newry on Saturday (July 3). Please give generously.

Buzzer says he only knows these three English jokes: the rugby team, the cricket team and the football team!

It seems Gary Boylan and Danny Parr have bought one of Pat Trainor’s DVDs; 'How to play golf' and they have been secretly watching it in the Bal. The Democrat's Robbie Casey and Pascal 'Bangkok' Gribben took the boys to the cleaners at Greenore Golf Club last week, it was like taking candy from a baby and Gary and Danny cried all the way home!

Brendan O'Neill has his passenger boat 'Seascapes' on Carlingford Lough and is doing cruises. You can sail up past Narrow Water Castle or to Rostrevor and look at the monument and the good news is you can now go ashore in Omeath and visit the old showband star who is the barman in Howe's Bar. Do take advantage of these great trips!

'Til next week, take care and God bless, Big O
