Big O

HELLO again and welcome. May I thank with all my heart, our new mayor Mick Murphy for hosting one of the best civic dinners I've ever attended, and I've attended quite a few.

Last Wednesday night our Special Olympians who came home from the national games in Thomond Park, Limerick, with 42 medals, gold, silver and bronze were the guests of honour.

The athletes, trainers, mentors and their families were invited to the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre. The place was buzzing as Mayor Mick Murphy presented every athlete with a certificate of merit from Newry and Mourne Council.

After the presentation we were treated to a meal provided by Courtney’s, it was delicious and I didn't even mind breaking my diet as it was well worth it!

The people of Warrenpoint and the surrounding district will get a chance to see the athletes and their medals as they will be in the parade for the opening of the Maidens of Mourne Festival and I can tell you that they are excited and delighted to be in the parade.

Spare a thought for Davy Barlow, he saw a garage selling cheap petrol so he pulled in and filled the car. Sadly cheap petrol doesn't go well in a diesel car!

Until next week, God bless and take care, Big O.
