IT was yet another successful Ultimate Conflict night as a packed Mourne Country Hotel reverberated with excitement to the sight of local boys putting on a cracking show.
Damien Rooney continued his winning ways with a fight-of-the-night performance against top ranked Irish feather-weight fighter Ben Davis in what turned out to be a stand up slugfest.
After a tough first round, Rooney, winner of five of his six contests so far, turned up the heat in the second and third rounds to come away with the unanimous decision, leaving the home crowd on their feet in appreciation.
Sebastian Torres pulled out a first round submission finish, local amateur boxer Declan Trainor stopped his opponent in the second round, and Dog Pounds’ Milan Kovac scored an early first round submission win.
In professional action local boys Ryan Sloan and Aaron Flynn were unlucky as Ryan got caught in the first round with a submission and Aaron unfortunately dislocated his shoulder during a scramble in the opening round of his fight.
Colm McCann was unlucky as he received a disqualification for an illegal blow in his semi-professional match-up.
And Yannick Magee scored the knockout of the night with a spinning back elbow. Unfortunately, under semi-professional rules this was an illegal blow, and the bout was unfortunately determined as a no-contest.
All in all though this was another exciting night of fights in Newry with over 450 spectators filling the venue to cheer on their local boys.
The next Ultimate Conflict event is scheduled for March with interest already building.
