SINEAD and Orla Fegan tasted sporting success once again as the athletic twins were part of the UUJ team that won the Dowd Cup by defeating Armagh on Sunday at the Dubs’ Playing Fields in Belfast.
The Newry Shamrocks’ girls didn’t start for Jordanstown but when they came on in the second half they played vital roles in their team’s victory.
The girls are great role models for teenagers as no matter what actitivity they take part in they always give it their best shot.
Over the years Sinead and Orla have won trophies in numerous sports, with father Maurice and mother Patricia taking a great interest in the girls’ careers and watching their girls in action at every opportunity.
While at St Mary’s School the girls won a host of athletic medals and were part of the school’s U20 football team that won the Ulster title.
Even now, as students in Health Management at Jordanstown University, they still find time to come back to their old school to help out with athletic training.
The girls were winners with Newry Shamrocks in both football and camogie.
In the 2008 season Sinead and Orla led the Newry girls to junior league and championship honours.
They then progressed to county level where they continued in a successful vein, winning promotion to Division Two with the Mourne girls.
Jordanstown have won the Dowd Cup for the past three years and with Sinead and Orla on board, it looks like the trophy will stay at UUJ for at least another three years.
