IT is almost time again for Warrenpoint Pantomime Club to put on their 54th annual performance.
The cast have already been rehearsing for weeks and will present the tale of Cinderella in Warrenpoint Town Hall between next Monday, February 8, and Sunday, February 14.
There will be shows each night at 8pm and matinee performances at 3pm this Sunday (February 7) and on Saturday, February 13.
The ticket booking office opens today (Tuesday) at 12.15pm in the Town Hall and will remain open to 5pm daily. Tickets cost £6. For further information, please contact 417 52256.
Warrenpoint Feis: The pantomime will be very closely followed by Warrenpoint Feis, which takes place in Warrenpoint Town Hall between Wednesday, February 17, and Sunday, March 14.
The annual feis works towards promoting culture and arts via music, Irish dancing, drama and verse speaking.
It is certain that local boys and girls and young people are already practising their singing, dancing, acting and speaking to get ready for their performances on stage.
Warrenpoint Feis is always a hive of activity for the few weeks of the year it is on and is anticipated to be just as great this year as it always is. The competitions will begin at 9.30am daily.
Camogie reunion: St Peter’s Camogie Club celebrates their 40th year this year and are planning to host a reunion dinner dance in the clubrooms on Friday, March 26.
The club members are keen to ask any former players, mentors or committee members to come along to the reunion dinner and would invite them to contact the club as soon as possible.
Hurlers: Congratulations to all the under-14 and under-16 hurlers who received an award at the recent presentation evening.
The under-14 player of the year trophy went to Anton Magill and the most improved award to Stephen Hughes.
In the under-16 category, the player of the year was Jamie Grant and most improved player was Conleth Conway.
New senior hurling manager Joe Baldwin spoke to the young men, advising them and encouraging them on working on their basic hurling skills before the boys tucked into burgers and chips provided by Genoa Café.
St Peter’s GAA: There will be a club quiz in the clubrooms on Friday (February 5) at 8pm with quizmaster Mervyn Dodds. There will be a meeting regarding the Warrenpoint under-16 footballers for the coming year on Thursday, February 11, in the clubrooms at 7.30pm.
All players interested in playing for the team this year are invited to come along to the meeting.
The club is delighted to welcome their first school liaison officer, Anne McCormack to the club.
Anne, who is herself a former teacher, hopes to work towards creating links between local schools and St Peter’s GAC in order to enhance community activities within the club.
The senior management committee have also appointed Carrie Crawford as the officer for children and vulnerable young people with the club.
Carrie works with vulnerable young people in her job and is the perfect person to work with young people in the club.
On Friday, January 22, the members of Rostrevor and District Vintage Club were at the Kilbroney Bar and Restaurant, Rostrevor, to present a cheque of £2500 to Kerry Boyd (NI Autism Charity Marketing Manager).
The money was raised in the recent Christmas Draw. Joe Hughes, treasurer, handed over the cheque with club chairman Brendan Murney also present.
Good wishes to Brendan on his coming operation.
A large crowd of family members gathered in the Balmoral to wish a happy 21st birthday to Micéal Leicester, Drumlin Walk, last Friday. A surprised Micéal was met by his family who heard him to cut his cake. Many happy returns to him.
The Minimacs duo, Patrick Mackin and CJ O’Hanlon supplied the music before and after the buffet supper. There was also a surprise 80th birthday party in the Balmoral last Saturday night, for Ellen McAteer, Meadow Lands, Warrenpoint.
Her husband Eddie and their family of eight children, five boys and three girls, not to mention 11 grandchildren, were there.
The Haiti fund got a boost when St Peter’s Pastoral Centre held a coffee morning on Wednesday when £2526 was raised for the disaster victims.
Members of other local churches attended including Rev David Temble and Canon John Kearney.
Condolences go to the family of George Fearon, Drumsesk Place, Warrenpoint, and the Horridge family, Clonallon Gardens, Warrenpoint, on the sad passing of Bill Horridge.
