BRIAN McElvanna had a blistering run in Sunday’s London Marathon.
The 42-year-old Lissummon man clocked an amazing 2.39 and joins a select few from the Newry area who have broken the 2.40 barrier.
Brian, managing director of the Newry-firm NCC IT Services in Monaghan Street, went into the race, hoping to break his previous best time of 2.44 that he posted up in Dublin in 2017 and he was delighted to have done so. In a vast field of over 40,00 runners Brian finished in 387th place and was 64th in his age-group.
Brian, a former GAA footballer, joins the like of the legendary Willie McCracken as well as local top-notch marathon runners such as Don Travers, Walter Murphy, Seamus Kearns, Des Woods, Joe McKevitt, Laura Graham, Eamon White, Chris Devine and Brendan Campbell in ducking under 2.40.
