NEWRY, Mourne and Down District Council is getting ready to fill the district with some Christmas Magic with a series of Switch On Events happening from November 22, until December 7.

It all kicks off with the flagship Light Switch On in Newry on November 22.

Newry will be a hub of activity in The Event Space at Marcus Square, Hill Street, from 5pm on Thursday, November 22.

The stage will come alive with musical performances; there will be FREE amusements, arts and craft workshops, face painting and balloon modelling.

A Santa Fun Run will take place at 5.30pm, hosted by Southern Area Hospice Services, and the winner will be announced just in time for Santa’s arrival.

Be there in time to watch Santa and his reindeer arrive to switch the lights on at 7pm followed by a pyrotechnic display.

Councillor Mark Murnin, Chairman of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, said “The Christmas Lights Switch Ons will officially mark the start of the Festive Season in the District. I encourage everyone to attend the events and get into the Christmas mood.”

Community Christmas Light Switch On events also take place in Crossmaglen (November 30, 7.30pm), Kilkeel (December 1, 12pm) and Warrenpoint (December 1, 3pm - switch-on at 6.15pm).
