Election 2019: Counting underway in Newry, Mourne and Down

COUNTING to determine which councillors will serve on Newry, Mourne and Down District Council for the next five years is underway.

Polling closed yesterday (Thursday) at 10pm, with counting taking place on Friday and Saturday at Newry Leisure Centre.

Turnout was up in the Newry DEA, with 10,098 votes cast out of the 19,400 eligible to do so. That's up from 8,981 out of 18,411 in 2014.

Meanwhile in the Crotlieve DEA, 11,650 votes were cast out of an eligible electorate of 19,863, meaning that turnout was 58.65% - up from 53.55% in 2014.
