FULFILLING their ambitions to lend a helping hand to the children of Gaza are the many altruistic boys and girls of Saint Malachy’s primary school Newry.
Since last Christmas the compassionate conclave of kids at the school have raised exactly £8028.74 to help the Irish Red Cross carry out their ongoing humanitarian relief efforts in Gaza in the wake of the most recent escalation of the Israel/Palestine conflict.
The bubbly boys and girls at the school were able to raise this bountiful amount through various fundraising activities including a school Christmas Fayre as well as the establishment of a Just Giving page which enabled everyone in the community to play a small but appreciated role in aiding the altruistic little ones at Saint Malachy’s in helping their counterparts in the middle east.
Paying a personal visit to the school was red cross representative Sophie Linnane with a school spokesperson explaining what Miss Linnane got up too during her visit to Saint Malachy’s to accept the cheque.
“Our school community came together in an incredible way to support the children affected by the conflict in Gaza. Starting with our Christmas Fayre and continuing online through our Just Giving page, we raised an astounding £8028.74 for the Irish Red Cross!
“Sophie Linnane of the Irish Red Cross visited our school and spoke to the pupils and staff about the vital work that they carry out to help children in war torn countries.
“Sophie thanked us for the phenomenal amount of money raised by the school and was delighted to accept the cheque on the behalf of the Irish Red Cross.
“We are overwhelmed by the generosity and support from everyone, both locally and globally. Thank you for making a difference!”
