CHIEFTAIN'S Walk in Memory of Martin McGuinness

Wednesday 10 September 2025 6:40

Sinn Féin Councillor Sarah Duffy has extended an open invitation to all to join this year’s CHIEFTAIN’S Walk, taking place on Sunday, 14th September, in honour of the late Martin McGuinness.

The walk will assemble at 10:00AM at Peter Corrigan’s Memorial Stone on the Loughgall Road, before following the historic route of the Battle of the Yellow Ford, one of the most significant engagements in Irish history.

Councillor Duffy encouraged families, friends, and community members to take part in what promises to be a poignant and powerful morning:

"This walk is not just about remembering Martin McGuinness – it’s about continuing the journey he dedicated his life to. Martin believed deeply in the power of community, in peace, and in remembering our past while building a better future together. This event reflects all of that.

Throughout the walk, local historians and volunteers will bring the story of the Battle of the Yellow Ford to life through live narration, giving participants a unique opportunity to engage with a key chapter of Irish history as they walk in memory of a modern-day chieftain of the peace process.

"It will be a day of remembrance, reflection, and togetherness,” said Councillor Duffy. “We walk not only in memory of Martin, but in support of the values he stood for – equality, unity, and reconciliation.”

Donations collected on the day will go to the Martin McGuinness Peace Foundation, helping to continue his legacy by supporting initiatives that promote dialogue, peacebuilding, and equality across Ireland.
