Kebab house set to skewer hunger this Christmas       

SET to skewer hunger and isolation   are the staff at the Kebab House Newry who will be opening their doors to all in need this Christmas Day.   

    Fully embodying the festive spirit The Kebab House  will this December 25 from 3pm to 8pm have its doors open to anyone who is homeless, isolated or in need of company  to provide free warm meals and a helping hand .   

 Furthermore for the elderly and disabled   in the community who cannot make it down to the take out’s site on Sugar Island a delivery service will also be available to ensure nobody goes hungry this Christmas. 

   As Kebab House  proprietor Shazad  Ahmed, who is known to his friends as Jimmy, explained the invaluable  service which his business will provide to the community  this Thursday be it in person or via delivery is open to anyone and everyone free of charge with no questions asked.    

No questions asked

“We have done this every year since we opened in 2019” explained Jimmy. We open at 3pm in the afternoon until about 8.30pm to 9pm.

“If anyone comes and tells us that they need food or rings us we can deliver. Some people we have on the book and it is confidential, they have told us that they need food and asked us if we can deliver.

“We have them on the book and we can deliver to them. Some people ring and say that they have a neighbour, they are an old person and they cannot travel we can you deliver them food, we deliver this way. We already have nine or ten people on the books but people can walk in as well. Some people come into buy.  

“ We do this for people who have no family, they can come and take the food and eat it. If elderly people ask we can deliver and we don't charge them anything

“Last year we did about 55 or 56 orders. If anyone cannot come into the Kebab house such as elderly people we deliver to them, but you can come in as well. It is no questions asked. If someone tells us that they are homeless, have no money or family they are welcome to come and eat. We don't ask any questions.”
