Newry man to be sentenced on theft charges

PRE-SENTENCE reports have been ordered in the case of a Newry man charged with six counts of theft.

Before a sitting of Newry Magistrates Court, Christopher Burns, 26, from Parkhead Crescent, appeared via video link from Maghaberry Prison .

Burns faces a charge relating to the theft of a bottle of rum, valued at £25, belonging to Marks & Spencer's, on June 13 last year.

He is further charged with the theft of clothing, valued at £90 from TKMAXX; theft of an electric toothbrush and 15 bottles of aftershave, valued at £594 from B&H Bargains; three pairs of sunglasses from Specsavers, valued at £450l and steaks, with an unknown value, from The Five Ways Store.

These offences took place on October 3 and 17 last year.

Burns was remanded in custody to appear back in Court on April 17 for sentencing.

A review of the case will be held on April 3.
